Most visitors come for Cherry Springs State Park, one of the best places on the East Coast to see the Milky Way. They stay for everything else: nearly 1,000 miles of ATV and UTV riding, backcountry hiking, trout streams, scenic overlooks along Routes 6 and 44, the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon, and friendly small towns with classic diners and local bars. Cell service is limited or nonexistent in much of the region. Download offline maps before you leave home.
Stock Up on the Way In
Most restaurants are 10 to 15 minutes from our homes. Groceries are much easier to grab before you arrive.
Pack Layers
Nights cool off fast at elevation, even in July. A fleece and a light shell will cover most evenings out here.
Call Ahead
Hours at small-town businesses change with the seasons. A quick call saves a wasted drive, so check first.
Bring Cash
A handful of local spots are cash only. There's an ATM in Coudersport, but bring some before you head out.
Give Yourself Time
Distances look short on the map but the roads are winding. Budget a little extra time between stops out here.
